What is possibly the most popular tornado movie, Twister, starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton (Predator 2, Aliens), just turned 25 – perfect timing to publish a new tattoo list.
A tornado is violently rotating column of air which is in contact with both the ground and clouds. While they’re obviously an extremely dangerous, damaging and deadly windstorm, there’s still something fascinating and mesmerising about how tornadoes seeminly appear (and then disappear) out of nowhere.
A “small” tornado can measure 80m across, with 180 km/h winds and travel a few kilometres. Compare that to a extreme tornado which can be as big as 3km in diameter, with 480 km/h winds, and travel up to 100km. After seeing images and footage of entire neighbourhoods and towns being completely decimated by a tornado, we wouldn’t ever want to experience even a small one.
Most flee these extreme weather conditions, but there are people who choose to chase these storms in the hopes of coming face-to-face with a tornado. Several reality television shows have aired, following these people on their insanely wild storm chasing adventures.
Perhaps you live in Tornado Alley (Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, South Dakota, Iowa, or Nebraska) and want a tattoo of a tornado to represent your tornado experiences. The tattoo could also be inspired by a favourite film which features a tornado (Twister, Wizard of Oz), or your love of binge-watching storm chaser content.
Tornadoes cause destruction, but don’t let your tattoo be the same – do your research, find a talented artist and you’ll avoid a disaster!
