In 1998 The Wild Thornberrys premiered on Nickelodeon, introducing viewers to a family of intrepid travellers, and their adventures around the world, as the parents (Nigel and Marianne) film wildlife documentaries.
Sisters Debbie (voiced by Danielle Harris, from the original Halloween series and Rob Zombie’s remakes) and Eliza (voiced by Lacey Chabert, from Party of Five and Mean Girls) had a childhood most of us could only dream of, but what really captivated the young viewers was Eliza’s ability to communicate with animals.
Rounding out the main cast of characters were a feral boy, Donnie and a chimpanzee named Darwin. Although raised by an orangutan, Eliza is unable to understand Donnie (voiced by Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers) which made his inane ramblings all the more confusing and entertaining.
The Wild Thornberrys had an impressive run of 91 episodes across five seasons, airing on Nickelodeon from 1998 to 2004.
We love David Attenborough, but it is a damn shame that Nigel Thornberry and his nature show don’t actually exist – we’re not the only ones to think this, right?
When researching for this post we found some terrible Nigel tattoos
(and some absolutely strange ones) and yet we couldn’t find one of the main protagonist; Eliza is lost somewhere in the tattoo jungle. Nevertheless, we hope you enjoy the nostalgia that the top The Wild Thornberrys tattoos brings you.
So many Pixar films have been nominated for (and some have even won) Academy Awards and The Wild Thornberrys Movie (2002) is the only Nickelodeon Nicktoon to join that illustrious list.
While Nickelodeon has failed to ever win an Academy Award, don’t let that stop you from getting an Oscar-worthy tattoo!
