Today, May 17 is National Walnut Day.
When it comes to the botanical definition of a walnut, they’re not actually a nut; a walnut is the seed found inside of a shell that is surrounded by a fruit.
The edible part of a walnut resembles a brain which makes them (compared to other nuts and seeds) an interesting shape for a tattoo, and they’re even considered brain food due to their high levels of DHA.
Walnuts are not just a food product – the husks can be used in the production of inks, and was possibly used by such notable artists as Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt.
Enjoy a handful of walnuts (or any nut you prefer) and generate some bonus brain power as you research artists for your very own walnut tattoo. We’ve got five tattoos here for you to check out but, remember: Be Inspired. Never Copy.
If you want a nutcrackers tattoo to go along with your walnut, we’ve got you covered.
