For the rest of you, you now probably have the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song on repeat in your head. You’re welcome.

SpongeBob SquarePants was first broadcast to the world when a preview of episode one aired on Nickelodeon on May 1, following the 1999 Kids’ Choice Awards. July 17 of 2019 marks the 20th anniversary of the show’s official premiere, and we here at LWG believe there is no better way to celebrate than with a tattoo.

As the highest rated series to ever air on Nickelodeon, with 12 seasons and 244 episodes, along with the two feature films, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, you’re not short of content to inspire your own unique tattoo.

SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, and Plankton are the four common characters found in the Instagram tattoo hashtags. So, if you’re all for doing something a little different, you may wish to choose a rarer character such as Mr. Krabs, Sandy Cheeks, Mrs. Puff, or Pearl for the next addition to your tattoo collection.

The show’s creator, Stephen Hillenburg (whose first job in animation was on Rocko’s Modern Life), sadly passed away six months ago. For someone who brought smiles to the faces of so many children, teens and adults with his show, it really is so heartwarming to see lovely SpongeBob SquarePants tattoos celebrating his work.

Let’s take a trip to Bikini Bottom and meet some its residents in tattoo form!
