The Addams Family was created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938, and last month marked 30 years since his passing. His 150 single-panel cartoons were filled with dark humour, satire, and put on a spin on traditional 20th century families.
The Addams Family television series debuted in 1964, and it wasn’t until the show went into production that the characters were finally named. The show ran for only two seasons, but those 64 episodes were enough for The Addams Family to become a part of pop culture.
A 16 episode The Addams Family animated sitcom from Hanna-Barbera was aired in 1973, although their first animated appearance was in “Scooby-Doo Meets the Addams Family” (a.k.a. “Wednesday is Missing”) in 1972.
It is, however, the two 90s films which many of us remember best. Following the release of The Addams Family in 1991, Hanna-Barbera produced another animated series that ran for two seasons, concluding only a couple of months before Addams Family Values was released in November 1993.
