Just when you thought Rick and Morty couldn’t be any more ridiculous, they created Pickle Rick.
Haven’t you had a commitment, appointment or event that you would do anything to squirm your way out of? I think we can all relate to Rick Sanchez on some level.
It’s exciting to live vicariously through Rick, regardless of him being a fictional character. For 20-odd minutes, we immerse ourselves in the world of Rick and Morty, experiencing a roller coaster of emotions; for some, it’s motivation to get some new ink.
Dozens of Rick and Morty themed tattoos are being posted online each day making it impossible to keep up as the hashtag has been overtaken by non-tattoo images (check out our curated post here). Pickle Rick, Tiny Rick, along with secondary characters and associates of Rick are even more popular than the likes of Summer, Beth, and Jerry in the tattoo world.
The concept of Pickle Rick was first introduced to the world in a video shown at San Diego Comic-Con on July 22, 2016. The proper, final Pickle Rick form was unveiled in the season 3 teaser trailer in April of the following year.
We can’t confirm that his is the first one ever made, but Matt Daniels (@stickypop on Instagram) lays claim to the first Pickle Rick tattoo ever posted on Instagram.

Daniels’ tattoo was shared online on April 13, 2017 – some three-plus months before the “Pickle Rick” episode aired on August 6, 2017.
In the three years since, there are now over 3000 images tagged #picklericktattoo on Instagram. Granted, some images aren’t of tattoos, and some are multiples of the same image, that still means there’s at least in excess of 1000 people in the world with a Pickle Rick tattoo on their person.
