Wreck-It Ralph hit cinemas in 2012 but the original concept for the film was developed way back in the ’80s. The computer-animated Disney film went through several names, and the story redeveloped, as the decades passed. High Score, Joe Jump, Reboot Ralph were possible movie titles before the studio settled on Wreck-It Ralph.
With John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) voicing Ralph, the film is a peek into the world of video game characters when no one is playing – it’s like the Toy Story of the video game world.
Ralph is the villain of the arcade game Fix-It Felix Jr. and, in their world outside of the game, he is hated by the other characters and always left out of their social gatherings. Ralph makes his way into the seedy underworld of a game called Sugar Rush where he meets Vanellope von Schweetz. Despite their vast and obvious difference in size and personality, the pair find common ground and become friends.Ralph Breaks the Internet, the sequel, was released in 2018.
