Halloween will see approximately 20 million pounds of candy corn sold in the US and Canada. Interestingly, candy corn was created a decade before the Ouija board. The sweet treat was originally called chicken feed – sounds so appetising, doesn’t it?
Candy corn is not only shaped like a corn kernel, but it is made from corn syrup which will see children and adults alike bouncing off the wall before their inevitable sugar crash.
Over the years, new flavours and colour combinations of candy corn have been introduced. During Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and the Fourth of July you can find differently coloured candy corn to suit the celebration. And, in more recent years, new flavour variants such as caramel apple, carrot cake, pumpkin spice and s’mores were made available.
