The Grinch is currently in theatres, but let’s take a trip back in time…
The Grinch actually made his first appearance before 1957’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas was released – two years earlier he was introduced in a poem titled The Hoobub and the Grinch.
Boris Karloff (known for portraying Frankenstein) narrated the 1966 animated movie and also voiced the Grinch. The 1977 television special Halloween Is Grinch Night acts as a prequel to the film released 11 years earlier. These were followed in 1982 by a Marvel produced Dr. Suess crossover The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat which featured two of Dr. Suess’ most popular characters.
It wasn’t until almost two decades later that we were taken back to Whoville when Jim Carrey was cast as the Grinch in the 2000 live action film. Can you really believe that it was that long ago?
Now a new generation of children are being introduced to the character and the story of the Grinch, with the computer-animated The Grinch movie released only a few weeks ago.
While children can only enjoy the film, those of us who are over 18 are able to express our love for the Grinch in a more permanent manner. When it comes to tattoos you’ll find the Grinch in many of his incarnations, from the original book illustration to live-action realism, and even the new computer-animated version.
The Grinch’s dog, Max isn’t in any of these tattoos, and Cindy Lou makes only a single appearance, but it’s up to you whether you’ll add them to your tattoo design. Furthermore, you have the option to focus solely on the Grinch or you may decide to add several Christmassy elements to accompany him.
If you’ve ever worked in retail during the Christmas period, then you probably relate to the featured character of today’s Winter Month post. Rather than the Grinch stealing Christmas can we have Krampus removing all the rude customers (who ruin the festive season for us) from our lives instead?
You might be a bit of a Grinch around this time of year, but perhaps your family will gift you with some money or vouchers for you to get tattooed in the new year. Keep scrolling and get excited and inspired about the next addition to your tattoo collection!
